National Budget Transparency Portal

An interactive platform that transforms Ghana's national budget into a clear, searchable, and visually accessible resource for public engagement.

Project Overview

The National Budget Transparency Portal is a public-facing platform that transforms Ghana's national budget from a dense government document into a clear, searchable, and visually accessible resource for citizens, journalists, and researchers.

It ingests official budget data — allocations, expenditure releases, and actual spending — to make fiscal transparency a practical reality.

Core Features

  • Budget Overview Dashboard: High-level summary of revenue, expenditure, and deficit/surplus positions at a glance.
  • Sector Allocation Explorer: Deep-dives into Education, Health, Agriculture, and Infrastructure funding with international benchmarking.
  • Ministry & Agency Explorer: Searchable directory of budget profiles and execution rates for all spending entities.
  • Geographic Budget Map: Mapping sub-national fiscal data, including regional development funds and infrastructure project locations.
  • Expenditure Tracker: Tracking actual spending versus allocations to identify under-execution and oversight gaps.
  • Revenue Tracker: Monitoring tax collection performance and trends against national targets.
  • Public Debt Monitor: Making Ghana's domestic and external debt position accessible and understandable.

Impact

By making budget data accessible, the portal improves oversight, reduces accountability deficits, and empowers informed advocacy and journalism in public finance management.
